ON FOCUS

CC HITMOBIL launched HITMOBIL PROFESSIONAL ACADEMY

The first Summer Technical School on the topic "Modern systems for the storage of renewable energy - basic principles, technical aspects, regulatory framework", which will be held in the period 25 - 29 September 2023 in the hotel Villa List, the city of Sozopol. The event covers three thematic training sessions - "Classic and new batteries", "Hydrogen technologies" and "Electric mobility", within the framework of which various approaches for the accumulation and conversion of green energy with application in various spheres of industry and transport will be presented. The program of the School includes lecture courses aimed at students over 18 and undergraduates with a strong interest in technical disciplines, PhD students and young scientists with an affinity for applied research, and engineering and technical personnel from industry.

Centre of competence
HITMOBIL

The functioning of CC HITMOBIL will ensure the market orientation and integration of scientific research, technological development and innovations in several important areas for the national economy, stated as priority in the European Strategic Energy Technology Plan (SET-plan), the Research and innovation program Horizon 2020 of EU and in the actual measure pack “Clean energy for all Europeans”.

Priority 1

Building-up of decarbonized European economy

Priority 2

Leading position in the field of renewable energy sources

Priority 3

Secure energy supply at affordable price for all European citizens

Priority 4

Electromobility and transport

Applied Scientific Research

Industrial Research and Experimental Development

BUILDING UP OF A DISTRIBUTED

Scientific and research infrastructure

The project CC HITMOBIL provides the building up of a distributed scientific and research infrastructure with possibilities for applied study (industrial investigations and experimental development) and dissemination of knowledge, including so-called electron science in the areas of competence of the Center, comprising the whole cycle of “green” energy: RES (solar/wind/biomass) – Storage (batteries and hydrogen) – Conversion and Consumption (integral hybrid energy systems).

This module is contrived as an incubator of innovations. Applied study will be carried out here, with accent on investigations of interest for the industry.

The activity of this module involves pre-commercial proceedings with Technology Readiness Level (TRL) above 4, such as: scaling of laboratory prototypes, optimization of the regimes of industrial operation, testing and validation of pre-commercial systems for energy conversion and storage – batteries, supercapacitors, hydrogen and hybrid systems, inclusive in regime of operation; participation in demonstration and pilot projects; preparation of harmonized test procedures and protocols (when standards are missing), technical documentation and instructions for exploitation under real conditions.

Horizontal activities ensuring efficient functioning and integration of CC HITMOBIL as a broad range distributed research and development infrastructure.

Activities and Results

HITMOBIL

Main Activities

  • Building-up of new distributed specialized investigation infrastructure, including preparation activities.
  • Purchase and putting in operation of equipment (tangible assets) and intangible assets, necessary to realize the investigation and innovation program of CC.
  • Carrying out market oriented scientific studies and development of cutting new technologies in priority area of the Innovative Strategy for Intelligent Spesialization (ISIS) “Mechatronics and clean technologies”.
  • Association of leading researchers and top specialists for carrying out cutting level research in priority area of the Innovative Strategy for Intelligent Spesialization (ISIS) “Mechatronics and clean technologies”, especially in hydrogen-based technologies, electrical vehicles and storage of energy from RES. This is governed by IEES and executed by all partners.
  • Ensuring extra qualification of investigators and innovators in the priority areas of the Innovative Strategy for Intelligent Spesialization (ISIS). Increasing the qualification and competence of the existing and new staff if the Centre.
  • Achievement and confirmation of leading positions on regional and European level, participation in prestigious international conferences.
  • Formation of strategic partnerships with leading technological and scientific organizations and firms in Europe and Bulgaria.
  • Broad dissemination of the results by increased publication activity, organization of conferences, seminars, summer schools/workshops; creation of a digital library; assisting legislative and administrative initiatives on introduction of hydrogen technologies on national and regional level.
  • Transfer of knowledge. All partners participate. Creation and merchandizing of a portfolio of intellectual property rights and providing of sustainable public finance. Establishing a “spin” enterprise.
  • Providing of specialized research and applied services by creation of an Information map of the existing investigation structure and the range of its activity and of a tracing system about the utilization of the infrastructure.
  • Organization and management of the project.
  • Information and publicity.

Expected Results

As a result of the implementation of the project, the infrastructure necessary for scientific research and innovation activity will be strengthened, the capacity to realize achievements in the field of scientific research and innovation activity will be improved by building a CC with two technological modules and one module for transfer and dissemination of knowledge and scientific and applied information as follows:

MODULE 1: Industrial research (4 Laboratories):

L1: Batteries
L2: Photovoltaic modules and generators
L3: Hydrogen and fuel cells
L4: Bioenergy

MODULE 2 „Experimental development” (2 laboratories):

L5: Chemical power sources for energy storage and electrical vehicles
L6: Integral energy systems

MODULE 3 „Communications and transfer of knowledge: Department "Knowledge management" and Department "Technology transfer" :

  • New jobs will be opened for researchers at the CC HITMOBIL
  • Infrastructural capacity for scientific work of more researchers will be created
  • Young scientists up to 34 years old, leading national and foreign researchers who participate in research and development activities in the center will be attracted
  • Access will be expanded for doctoral students, postdoctors and postgraduates
  • Increased transnational mobility and international cooperation
  • A partnership and interaction will be created between research and development centers, higher schools and enterprises, which will strengthen the science-education-business connection
  • Private investment will be attracted, with a special focus on scientific research that will serve as the basis for technological development and innovations
