Hydrogen and Batteries for Clean Energy: Centre of Competence HITMOBIL at European Researchers’ Night 2026
Research Developments for Clean Energy and Sustainable Mobility Presented
On 25 September 2026, the Centre of Competence HITMOBIL participated in European Researchers’ Night 2026 by joining the “Cabinets of Curiosity” exhibition in front of the Regional History Museum – Sofia, with demonstrations in the “Electrochemistry for Clean Energy” interactive zone organised by IEES-BAS.
Visitors had the opportunity to learn about research developments and technological solutions in energy storage and hydrogen energy. To attract their attention, demonstrations featured batteries and supercapacitors, water electrolysis, the “Green Hydrogen Cycle” model, hydrogen-powered model cars and a full-size hydrogen-powered electric vehicle. Particular interest was sparked by the visual experimental and informational materials related to the development of a nickel-zinc battery system with improved performance characteristics, carried out under the project “Development and Sustainability of the Centre of Competence HITMOBIL” (BG16RFPR002-1.014-0009).
As part of the event, Chief Assistant Professor Dr Elitsa Petkucheva participated in the poster exhibition at the “Triangular Tower of Serdica” museum and exhibition complex, presenting research on electrochemical water splitting in alkaline electrolysers with anion-conducting electrolyte membranes for hydrogen production. The research is being carried out under the project “Development and Sustainability of the Centre of Competence HITMOBIL” (BG16RFPR002-1.014-0009).
The participation of the Centre of Competence HITMOBIL in European Researchers’ Night 2026 provided an opportunity for direct dialogue with the general public and for promoting research and technological solutions being developed in Bulgaria in clean energy, hydrogen technologies and sustainable mobility.
European Researchers’ Night 2026–2027 in Bulgaria is being implemented under project 101305404 – K-TRIO – Researchers in the Knowledge Triangle, funded by the European Union under the Horizon Europe programme, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions, call HORIZON-MSCA-2025-CITIZENS-01.
