The Institute of Polymers - BAS (IP) carries out advanced studies stimulated by the development of the polymer science in the world and works in collaboration with leading specialists in the field. 

IP consists of six laboratories: „Amphifilic and ionogen polymers“, „Bioactive polymers“, „Conjugation polymers“, „Phosphor containing monomers and polymers“, „Processes of polymerization“ and „Structure and properties of polymers“. IP has 5 professors, 11 assistant professors, 17 senior assistants, 6 assistants, 18 higher education specialists and technicians. 

According to the Regulations of the constitution and activities of IP, the main fields of activity are: „Fundamental and applied research and education in the priority fields of the modern polymer science“.

IP is a co-founder of the Central and East Europe Polymer network (CEEPN), a non-formal organization of polymer institutes and groups from eight European countries. 

IP will participate in CC HITMOBIL with the laboratory of „Conjugation polymers“ working in the field of solid polymer electrolytes for membranes in fuel cells and is proficient in executing international projects, including the Framework Programs of EU, as well as direct collaboration with industry. The main activity is directed toward creation of new solid polymer electrolytes for fuel cells and electrolyzers with polymer membrane with improved mechanical properties and ionic conductivity.
