CoC HITMOBIL Presented Hydrogen Technologies at the Children's Science Festival “Cosmos of Ideas”
Interactive demonstrations attracted the attention of hundreds of visitors
Representatives of the Institute of Electrochemistry and Energy Systems “Acad. Evgeni Budevski” at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (IEES-BAS) and the Centre of Competence HITMOBIL participated in the third edition of the Children's Science Festival “Cosmos of Ideas”, held on 22 June 2026 at Cosmos Private Secondary School in the village of Osoytsa, Bulgaria.
Among the leading Bulgarian scientists who met with children and young people interested in science and technology were Assoc. Prof. Blagoy Burdin, PhD, and Chief Assist. Prof. Miglena Slavova, PhD. They presented the opportunities offered by hydrogen technologies through interactive demonstrations that attracted significant interest from the festival participants.
Visitors had the opportunity to learn about the principles of hydrogen production, storage and utilization as a clean energy carrier through models of a green energy cycle and a hydrogen-powered electric vehicle. The demonstrations showed how renewable energy can be stored in the form of hydrogen and subsequently used to power vehicles with zero harmful emissions.
A special highlight of the presentation was the demonstration of the first hydrogen-powered electric vehicle registered in Bulgaria, owned by IEES-BAS. The vehicle operates on hydrogen produced in an electrolyser in HITMOBIL laboratory powered by electricity from renewable energy sources. In this way, visitors were able to see a real-life example of the application of hydrogen technologies in transport and their role in building a sustainable energy system.
The third edition of the Children's Science Festival “Cosmos of Ideas” featured more than 30 activities across over 20 scientific fields and brought together scientists, researchers, teachers and families from all over Bulgaria. The event aims to foster curiosity about science and inspire future generations of scientists, engineers and innovators through interactive and accessible scientific experiences.
The participation of IEES-BAS and CoC HITMOBIL is part of their ongoing efforts to promote hydrogen technologies and demonstrate the opportunities they offer for the transition to clean and sustainable energy.
