CoC HITMOBIL Takes Part Again in the Sofia Science Festival
16 and 17 May 2026, “Explorer” zone of the John Atanasoff Forum at Sofia Tech Park
On 16 and 17 May 2026, in the “Explorer” zone of the John Atanasoff Forum at Sofia Tech Park, as part of the 16th Sofia Science Festival, the CoC HITMOBIL once again participated with an exhibition stand. The stand showcased activities under the project “Development and Sustainability of the HITMOBIL Competence Centre” (Grant Agreement No. BG16RFPR002-1.014-0009), as well as part of the services and research infrastructure offered by the Centre.
Through a video presentation and informational materials, visitors had the opportunity to learn more about the Centre’s laboratories and its main areas of activity.
Particular interest among children and their parents was attracted by the interactive demonstration model “Green Energy Cycle”, which illustrated the principle of using green hydrogen for storing and subsequently releasing energy generated from renewable energy sources. In an accessible and visual way, the advantages of hydrogen technologies as part of future low-carbon energy systems were also explained.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Blagoy Burdin, Head of the Field Laboratory for Integrated Energy Systems, demonstrated to visitors the first hydrogen electric vehicle registered in Bulgaria by IEES-BAS, presenting its design, technical characteristics, and safety systems. He also answered numerous questions related to the vehicle’s operation and potential applications.
Visitors were also introduced to the capabilities of the hydrogen refuelling station, which uses hydrogen produced in the Field Laboratory through an electrolyser powered by renewable energy from the laboratory’s photovoltaic park.
The traditional Sofia Science Festival is organised by the Beautiful Science Foundation, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science, Sofia Tech Park, and Sofia Municipality.
