CoC HITMOBIL Supports Training of Students from PGTE “Henry Ford”

Students explore battery, supercapacitor, and hydrogen fuel cell technologies in the laboratories of CC HITMOBIL

On March 23, 2026, a group of 22 eleventh-grade students from the Vocational High School of Transport and Energy “Henry Ford”, Sofia, together with their teachers, visited three of the laboratories of CoC “HITMOBIL”.

The aim of the visit was to provide first-hand insight into key contemporary technologies for lithium-ion batteries, supercapacitors, and hydrogen fuel cells as energy sources for electric vehicles.

Assoc. Prof. Toma Stankulov, PhD, leading researcher at Laboratory 1 “Batteries”, introduced the students to the principles of operation, characteristics, and applications of lithium batteries, as well as to the main directions of research and development activities focused on the development and improvement of modern battery technologies, including supercapacitors.

Assoc. Prof. Galin Borisov, PhD, Head of Laboratory 3 “Hydrogen and Fuel Cells (HFC)”, presented the types of hydrogen converters – electrolyzers, fuel cells, hydrogen pumps, and compressors, their characteristics, principles of operation, and specific features of operation. Emphasis was placed on safety requirements and reliable system maintenance.

Students also had the opportunity to visit the Field Laboratory “Integrated Energy Systems” of CoC “HITMOBIL”, located in the Druzhba district. Assoc. Prof. Blagoy Burdin, PhD, Head of the Laboratory, presented the operating systems for hydrogen production, transmission, and storage for mobile applications. A demonstration of refueling a hydrogen electric vehicle from a specialized charging station was carried out. A comparison of the similarities and differences in the structure of the two types of electric vehicles – battery and hydrogen – was also presented.

The visit contributed to broadening the students’ knowledge in the field of modern energy technologies and to increasing their interest in research and engineering activities.
